Men's Cross Country Qualifies for the CCCAA State Championships

Cuesta Men's Cross Country finished 12th at the 2021 CCCAA Regional Championship at Irvine Regional Park last Friday to qualify for the 2021 CCCAA State Championship.  The Cougars five-man squad legged out several larger teams to earn the program's first State berth since 2018.  Coach Brian Locher's quintet was led by Returning Freshman Jordan Reilly (St Helena HS), who finished 32nd (20:55.6) overall.  Fellow all-WSC 2nd Team Harrier Luis Cervantes (Santa Maria: Righetti HS) was the next Cougar across the line at 59th (21:36.6) in the 172-man field.  Freshmen Xander Mahan (Nipomo HS- pict) and Nicolas Moore (San Andreas), 74th and 87th places respectively, joined Sophomore Brenden Niller (Templeton HS), in 110th place, to complete the Cougars scoring team.

The Cougars return to the CCCAA State Championships marks the 11th time over the past 13 full seasons that the men have qualified as a team.  The Cougars have two weeks to train and taper before the CCCAA State Championship on November 20 at Fresno's Woodward Park.
