Cuesta Men's Cross Country earned a spot at the 2021 CCCAA State Championship, despite returning from the pandemic with only handful of harriers. The Cougars did not post a team score in their first three races, but once the quintet was assembled their never finished out of the Top 20. In fact, the Cougars ran so well as a pack that four of the five members earned all-conference, and they booked the program's 11th trip of the past 13 full seasons to the CCCAA State Championship. Returning Freshmen Jordan Reilly (St. Helena HS) and Luis Cervantes (Santa Maria: Righetti HS) shared the team lead over their eight starts, as they each posted the team's best finish four times this season. Last weekend, Reilly paced the Cougars' pack with his 51st (21:23.3) place finish, while Cervantes battled through the tight pack and was less than a half minute behind at 84th (21:50.7). Reilly's time also earned him the 19th spot on Cuesta Men's Cross Country's All Time (since 1996) Top 20 CCCAA State Finals Times. Freshman Xander Mahan (Nipomo HS) has been the Cougars #3 harrier in five of his eight starts and landed in 107th (22:22.0) overall as Cuesta third finisher last weekend, while Sophomore Brenden Niller (Templeton HS) and Freshman Nicolas Moore (San Andreas) rounded out the Cougars scoring team in 147th (23:19.0) and 160th (24:21.9) places, respectively.
