Softball hosted College of the Siskiyous for a doubleheader and the two teams split day. The Cougars won the opener, 7-6, while the Eagles took the nightcap, 14-6, in a five-inning, run-rule victory. In Game 1, the Eagles took an early lead, but the game was knotted, 3-3, going into the 6th inning. Siskiyous broke free with three runs in the top of the 6th, but Megan Ingle's one-out, double ignited a four-run inning to give the Cougars' the lead. Pitcher Jillian Davis shutdown the Eagles in the 7th inning to earn a complete game victory, 7-6. In Game 2, Cuesta took an early lead, 2-1, but the Eagles' bats came alive as they pounded out a dozen runs in their next two turns at the plate. Davis returned to the Circle to put out the fire in the 4th inning, but Siskiyous manufactured a run to take the required eight-run lead. In their final at-bat, Cuesta put a pair of runners in scoring position, but could not bring them around to score, so the Eagles claimed the run-rule victory, 14-6, to split the day. It was a sunny day at Cuesta and the wind was blowing down Highway 1 from Morro Bay, which boosted day's power factor. The two teams combined for 19 extra-base hits on the day, including three home runs for each team. On offense, 2021 Team MVP Madelyn Mata led the Cougars. She was 4-for-7 on the day, including a double and a home run, with two runs scored and two driven in.
The Cougars are 7-8 on the season and continue their pre-conference schedule with a doubleheader at Hartnell on Tuesday (12/2 PM). Cuesta also travels to Monterey Peninsula for another twinbill on Saturday (12/2 PM)
