Softball returns to its Western State Conference schedule this week after battling some of best teams in the State at the Ventura Tournament last Friday and Saturday.  On Friday the Cougars faced both #13 Fullerton and #7 Bakersfield, before playing #15 Antelope Valley and unranked Glendale on Saturday.  Cuesta's pitchers were able to hold Fullerton to only three runs, but the Hornets' staff authored a shutout to take the game, 3-0.  The Cougars' offense deserted them again versus Bakersfield as the Renegades ran away with the win, 8-0.  Cuesta's offense bounced back on Saturday and pushed Antelope Valley to the brink.  The Cougars held a 3-2 lead going into the 5th inning, but the Marauders broke through for five runs and held on to win, 5-3.  Cuesta kept swinging and were outscored their opponents, 21-20, on the weekend.  The exploded for 17 runs in the tournament finale to beat Glendale, 17-5, and snap a four-game losing streak.  The Cougars are 11-19 on the season.

The Cougars have one Western State Conference game on the schedule this week.  Cuesta is currently 2-3 in the WSC play and travel to Santa Barbara City on Thursday (2:30).  The Cougars were also scheduled to host Pierce on Tuesday, however the Brahmas have suspended their program for the 2022 campaign.
