Cougars Win Walk-Off Against Corsairs, 21-0

Patience paid off for Cuesta Softball as the Cougars took advantage of 15 walks issued by the Santa Monica Pitching Staff.  The Cougars added 13 hits on their own and cruised to a 5-inning, Run-rule victory, 21-0.  First Baseman Jillian Davis and Rightfielder Sydney Wildes (pict) both enjoyed three-hit days against the winless Corsairs, while Leadoff Mara Mazanec also boasted a pair of singles.  The Cougars scored eight runs in the first two innings but put the game out of reach when they tallied 13 runs in the 3rd inning.  Cuesta collected ten hits in the inning, which ended with the bases loaded.  Returning Freshman Hurler Leea Brown authored a complete game Shutout for the Cougars, while allowing only four hits and striking out a season-high four hitters.  The victory moved the Cougars to 13-22 on the season into a tie with Santa Barbara City for 4th place in the Western State Conference, however both teams remain two-games behind 3rd place Allan Hancock.

Cuesta still has two games left on the 2022 schedule and slim post-season hopes push them on. They play at Allan Hancock next Tuesday (2:30) and play their final regular season game at home against Santa Barbara City the following Tuesday.  A pair of wins from the Cougars could get them back into the playoff consideration.
