Softball Wins Two, Loses One and has Another Washed Away

Cuesta Softball opened its 2024 campaign at the Glendale Tournament last Friday and Saturday.  The weekend was hampered by poor weather, yet Cuesta's Softballers were able to get in three games to kick-off the season.  On Friday, Cuesta opened the season with a run-rule victory over Compton, 10-2, but missed a chance to face 2023 Playoff Team San Diego Mesa when the weather turned.  On Saturday, the Cougars bounced back with another run-rule triumph against Los Angeles Valley, 14-1, and closed the tournament against host Glendale.  The Cougars loaded the bases in their first at bat, but were unable to push a run across, while the host Vaqueros plated two runners in the bottom of the inning.  Cuesta would strand five more runners over the next six innings as Glendale's defense bent, but did not break, while the hosts added one more insurance run for a 3-0 final.  Cuesta ended the weekend with a 2-1 record.

Softball is back in action for the Cougars home opening doubleheader this Friday against Porterville (12/2).  The Cougars and Pirates have played this series for many years and last year split the day, with Cuesta taking the opener, 2-0, and the Bucs coming back in the nightcap, 6-1.  Porterville opened the season with a 1-3 record over four games in the Bay Area last weekend.
