Cuesta Pitcher Isabella Garcia authored her third shutout against the Western State Conference as the Cougars beat visiting Santa Barbara City, 1-0. Garcia also scored the game's lone run the 3rd inning. She led off the inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Hailee Bussard and advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch, before Skylar Freutel (pict) plated her on a single. In fact, the Cougars were outhit on the day, 5-3, but Garcia was able to scatter the Vaqueros' safeties and faced only five batters over the minimum on her way to victory. All-WSC Shortstop Reese Tartaglia and fellow Sophomore Ashley Kober also added singles to the Cougars' offense for the day. The victory moved the Cougars record to 11-10 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Western State Conference play.
Cuesta heads to Woodland Hills for another WSC game on Thursday (2:30) against Los Angeles Pierce but will be back home for a WSC-Interdivisional doubleheader against Los Angeles Valley College on Friday (12/2:30). The Cougars already played the Monarchs and earned a run-rule victory, 14-1, in Glendale's season-opening tournament. Sophomore Pitcher Hannah Hollingsworth allowed the Monarchs only four hits and an unearned run to in the contest.
