Cuesta Softball Posts Two Run-Rule Victories on LA Valley

Cuesta Softball hosted Los Angeles Valley College for a Western State Conference Interdivision doubleheader and handed the visiting Monarchs a pair of losses.  The host Cougars and visiting Monarchs had met before during this season's opening weekend at the Glendale Tournament, with a Cuesta claiming a run-rule victory, 11-1.   Today Valley played much better, however, the outcome remained the same as Cuesta won both games by rule, for being ahead by eight or more runs after the 5th inning.  The Cougars claimed the opener, 14-2, and took the nightcap, 11-1.  Sophomore Pitchers Isabella Garcia and Hannah Hollingsworth both went the distance, in their respective starts, to earn complete game victories.  Garcia allowed only two runs and struck out eight of the 24 batters she faced, while also holding the Monarchs to just three hits, while Hollingsworth allowed three hits and an unearned run.  Catcher Hailee Bussard (pict) led the Cuesta offense on the day, by going 3-for-6 on the day, including a game-clinching grand slam to end the day.  Shortstop Reese Tartaglia also had a nice day with a single, double, and triple on the day, while scoring twice and driving in three more.  The Cougars are now 13-10 on the season.

Cuesta returns to action on Monday with another WSC Interdivision contest at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.  They also host Moorpark on Tuesday (2:30)
