Women's Basketball Claims Coach Casey Blair's First Victory

Cuesta Women's Basketball travelled to Taft on Tuesday and beat the "other" Cougars, 69-24.  The victory evens Cuesta's season record at 1-1 and, more significantly, earned Cuesta first-year Head Coach Casey Blair his first career victory.  Blair spent 13 seasons as the men's assistant coach for the men's team, before sliding over to become the women's program as its third coach since 1980. Cuesta jumped out early on Taft and held a 27-9 lead at halftime.  It only got worse for the host Cougars from there as they had two starters foul out and Cuesta got hot from beyond the arch.  Cuesta torched the nets with ten three-pointers in the game and cruised to the 45-point victory.  Returning Freshman Guard Julia Carney (SLO HS) led the Cougars' in scoring for the second straight game with a game-high 19 points, while Freshman Forward Hailie Abel (San Miguel: Paso Robles HS) posted a double-double with ten points and 17 rebounds.  The Cuesta Cougars are 1-1 on the season.

Cuesta Women's Basketball is back on the road next week as they return to the San Diego City Tournament.  The weekend event marks the Cougars' first big tournament since playing this event in "America's Finest City" before shutting down the 2019-20 season.  The tournament is a double-elimination tournament and runs three days, Thursday through Saturday.
