Women's Basketball Enjoys a Busy Week Before the Break

Women's Basketball shall not go quietly into their winter break, because the Cougars have four games scheduled this week.  The Cagers open the week at home against Porterville on Tuesday (6 PM), the game will be streamed at https://youtu.be/BJ3L4MvQRRY.  After the game against the Pirates, Cuesta will make a run to the border and the Grossmont Tournament in El Cajon.  The Cougars are schedule for three games in San Diego, starting with the host Griffins on Saturday (5 PM).  Cuesta also plays LA Trade-Tech on Sunday (3 PM) and concludes the tournament against MiraCosta on Monday (1 PM). LA Trade-Tech is the only ranked team in the tournament; the Beavers are currently 4th in the South Regional.

The Cougars are 4-4 on the season after beating Taft, 80-51, for the third time this season at the Hancock Crossover on Friday.  Cuesta was powered by their three-guard starting line-up of Olivia Missler (Atascadero: Mission Prep-pict), McKenzie Emmons (Fortuna HS-pict) and Julia Carney (SLO HS).  Missler led all scorers with 21 points, while also adding six rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Emmons made her second start of the season and scored a season-high 16 points, while dishing out a game-high six assists.  Carney netted 13 points to keep her season long double-digit scoring streak alive, while also adding six rebounds and rejected a game-high two blocked shots. The Cougars are still waiting on a ruling for Saturday's game against LA Southwest.  The "other Cougars" played with only six players on Friday, losing to host Allan Hancock, however they were unable to field a full team in time to play the Cuesta on Saturday.  Our Cougars will pick up a win if the game is considered a forfeit and not a "no contest".

The Cougars return to action on December 29 with back-to-back games on the other side of Big Sur.  They play at Monterey Peninsula on December 29 and at Hartnell on December 30.  Cuesta begins Western State Conference play on January 5 against Oxnard.
