Women's Basketball Defends Homecourt Against Porterville Pirates, 49-45

Cuesta Women's Basketball struggled through an "off night", but still managed to defend Cuesta's Stork Gym with a victory over Porterville, 49-45.  Cuesta converted a season-low 14 field goals, including five from beyond the arch, but also scored a season-high 16 free throws, including seven in the final quarter, to beat the Pirates. The Cougars' prowess from the charity stripe accounted for seven of their nine points in the fourth quarter and helped seal the victory.  Freshman Guard Olivia Missler (Atascadero: Mission Prep) and Freshman Forward Meadow Ingle (Paso Robles HS) led the Cougars to victory.  Missler was 10-for-13 from the foul line on her way to a game-high 20 points, while Ingle went 5-for-6 from the field for 11 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.  The win improved the Cougars' overall record to 6-4 on the season.

The Cougars are schedule for three games at the Grossmont Tournament this weekend in San Diego, starting with the host Griffins on Saturday (5 PM).  Cuesta also plays LA Trade-Tech on Sunday (3 PM) and concludes the tournament against MiraCosta on Monday (1 PM).
