Women Cagers Return to Action This Week to Open WSC Play

Cuesta Women's Basketball had its pre-conference roadtrip postponed last week, so the Cougars will head into their 2022 Western State Conference schedule off a 16-day break.  The Cougars should be well rested but will need to be sharp against visiting Oxnard on Wednesday (7 PM).  The Cougars own a four-game winning streak against the Condors, going back to February 2017, but Cuesta has also not played a Western State Conference game since 2019.  Cuesta sat out the 2020 WSC schedule but were also one of only eight teams to compete in 2020-21.  Cuesta was able to pick up a non-conference game this Saturday (4 PM), when they host Skyline during their WSC-bye.  The Trojans are 13-3 on the season and ranked 12th in the Northern California Region Poll.

The Cuesta Cagers had two games scheduled last week, but both games were postponed to due Covid concerns.  The Cougars plan to make-up their games against both Monterey Peninsula and Hartnell at a later date.

Cuesta is 7-6 on the season under new Head Coach Casey Blair and enters conference play with a winning record for the eighth time in the past ten full seasons.  Blair's current 53.8 career winning percentage is currently the highest all time among Cuesta's three head coaches.  The program is 564-540 over the past 42 campaigns.  Cuesta has not won a Western State Conference title since joining the circuit in 1983.  The program does own a pair of Coast Conference titles from 1981 and 1982, when they were in the same circuit as Monterey Peninsula, Hartnell and Skyline.
