Cougars Fall to Rival Bulldogs at Home, 47-33

Cuesta Women's Basketball fell back to .500 on the season with their second straight loss to local rival Allan Hancock, 47-33.  The Cougars, who are now 11-11 overall and 4-5 in the Western State Conference, lost to the Bulldogs in Santa Maria on Monday, 64-61, and today in SLO, 47-33.  While Monday's game was an offensive contest that came down to a late 5-0 run by the host Bulldogs, the re-match was all defense.  The two foes did not have many new tricks to share, so in today's match-up they combined to score only two-thirds as many points as Monday.  The Bulldogs' Jayci Bayne led all scorers with 22 points, while Returning Guard Julia Carney's (SLO HS) team-high 15 points made her the only Cuesta player to score in double figures.  The two teams began slowly, but Allan Hancock outscored Cuesta, 12-5, in the second quarter and entered halftime with a nine-point lead.  The two teams were mostly even after the intermission as the Bulldogs cruised to the season sweep.

Cuesta travels to Pierce this Saturday (5 PM) to play their second Western State Conference game against the Brahmas.  The Cougars took their first meeting, 58-27, in SLO on January 19.
