Cuesta's Coach Casey Blair Tabbed WSC Coach of the Year

Cuesta Women's Basketball was resurrected by 2022 Western State Conference Coach of the Year Casey Blair.  The Cougars, who had played only five games over the previous two campaigns, finished 13-14 overall and in 4th place in the Western State Conference. The Cougars were in playoff contention, before losing three of their last four games as their roster succumbed to injury.

First-year Head Coach Casey Blair was voted by his peers as the 2022 Western State Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Blair ended his first year at the helm with a 13-14 record, which is a testament to his ability as a coach.  He took over a program that had played only five games since 2019 and had not experienced a playoff berth, while boasting only one winning season, since 2015.  Blair, without time to recruit, molded the Cougars into a potential playoff team and kept them above .500 until the final day of the season. Blair, a former two-time all-Conference performer for Cuesta Men's Basketball, had spent his previous 13 seasons as the top Assistant Coach for the men's team.  Blair's accolade marks the seventh time in 42 seasons that a Cuesta coach has won the award.  Founding Coach Ed Musolff opened his career with back-to-back Coast Conference titles and Coast Conference Coach of the Year Awards, but Cuesta joined the Western State Conference the next season.  Musolff earned the WSC Coach of Year Award in 1993, 1997 and 2006, while also adding the CCCAA State Coach of the Year Award in 1997.  Musolff's successor Ron Barba earned WSC Coach of the Year in his third season, 2013, which kicked off a three-year playoff run.
