Carney and Missler Earn First Team Honors

Cuesta Women's Basketball landed its sharp-shooting tandem of Julia Carney (SLO HS) and Olivia Missler (Atascadero: Mission Prep) on the 2022 All-Western State Conference First Team.  The Cougars, who had played only five games over the previous two campaigns, finished 13-14 overall and in 4th place in the Western State Conference. The Cougars were in playoff contention but lost three of their last four games when Missler's season was ended early.

Returning Freshman Guard Julia Carney (SLO HS) was accorded all-WSC First Team honors after leading the Cougars with 13.4 points per game, which is 17th best all time at Cuesta, and raised that to 15.3 during WSC play.  Carney began her Cuesta career during the 2019-20 campaign, but that season was abandoned after the first tournament.  She sat out last Spring and returned to join Coach Casey Blair's inaugural season at the helm.  Carney, who was an all-court contributor for the Cougars, also added 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game to the Cougars' cause.  Her 32 points in the Cougars win over Santa Barbara on February 5th, represented a team season-high and were the most scored for Cuesta since her former teammate Claire Garcia set a school record with 38 points against San Diego City in the 2019-20 season finale.

Freshman Shooting Guard Olivia Missler (Atascadero: Mission Prep) was instant offense for the Cougars this season and was selected to the 2022 All Western State Conference First Team.  Missler averaged 12.1 points per game, while enjoying a team-high five 20-point performances.  Missler also added 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 steals per game for the Cougars.
