Women's Basketball picked up a win over visiting Las Positas, 71-61, for the Cougars' first victory of the season. 2022 WSC Coach of the Year Casey Blair juggled his line-up against the visiting Hawks as Guard Chris Heimann (pict) and Center Natalie Lamalfa made their first starts of the season. Neither of them scored in the game, but Heimann dished out a team season-best seven assists in the contest and Lamalfa's defensive presence in the key deterred the Hawks from venturing into the paint. The bulk of the Cougars' scoring came from 2022 All-WSC First Team Guard Olivia Missler (pict) and Freshman Forward Abigail Lacy. Missler enjoyed her best game of the season with a game-high 24 points, while also adding five assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Lacy added 21 points and 19 rebounds, including a dozen on offense, to post her third straight double-double. Lacy, who grabbed 20 caroms on Friday, posted another all-time Top 10 Cuesta single-game (below) rebounding mark. The Cougars initial victory of the 2022-23 campaign moved them to 1-7 on the season.
Women's Basketball is on the road in Santa Maria next week for the Hancock Crossover. The Cougars play Taft on Friday (3 PM) and Glendale on Saturday (1 PM). They will be back in Cuesta's Stork Gym on Monday (5 PM), December 12 to face Gavilan. Their game against the Rams will be their final home game before Western State Conference play begins on January 4, 2023.
