Women Cagers Starting to Roll; Pick Up Win Over Gavilan, 67-47

Women's Basketball picked up its third win over its past four games as the Cougars power through the end of their non-conference schedule. Tonight, Cuesta hosted and beat Gavilan, 67-47, after a touch and go first half, where the Cougars entered the intermission with a narrow three-point lead, 25-22.  Sophomore Small Forward Sam Watanabe (pict-L) scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the first half to give the Cougars an early lead.  Cuesta exploded for 41 second half points as all-WSC Guard Olivia Missler combined with Forward Abigail Lacy to score 26 of their 27 points after halftime.  Forward Sydney Howe's (pict-R) play was also a key to the Cougars victory, as she posted a double-double for the Cougars with 11 points and ten rebounds.  The victory improved the Cougars to 3-8 on the season, as Cuesta begins to shake off a slow start to the 2022-23 campaign.

Cuesta is back in action a week from today at the Grossmont Tournament in El Cajon.  The Cougars open with the host Griffins on Monday, December 19 (6 PM) and have Desert and MiraCosta on their dance card for Tuesday (4 PM) and Wednesday (1 PM),
