Women's Basketball Ready for WSC Play this Week- Host Ventura on Wed.

Women's Basketball overcame a slow start to the season and enters Western State Conference play this week as a contender.  The Cougars have two games this week, including their first home game since December 12.  They host Santa Barbara City this Wednesday (5 PM) in a men's and women's double header and the head to #7 Ventura on Saturday (5 PM) for another WSC twibill.  Coach Casey Blair was named 2022 WSC Coach of the Year after his rookie season at the helm, while leading the Cougars to 4th place in the loop.

The Cougars began the season with a seven-game losing streak but came together over the break to win seven of their nine games.  Cuesta split two games last week to complete their pre-conference schedule.  Last Thursday at Monterey Peninsula, the Cougars completed a five-game winning streak by beating the host Lobos, 67-50.  2022 All-WSC First Teamer Olivia Missler led the Cougars with 22 points in the game, while her backcourt partner Maria Ferrer Brao (pict) ran the show while posting game-highs with seven assists and six steals, as well as seven rebounds and six points.   The Cougars ended 2022 with a setback in Salinas with a loss to Hartnell, 70-29.  The Cougars went 10-55 from the floor against the Panthers and scored more than half of their points during their 16-point second quarter.  Sophomore Daisy Hummell (pict) led the Cougars with seven points on the night.  Cuesta is currently 7-9 on the season.
