Women Cagers Stay Close to Home for Two Games this Week

Women's Basketball has a pair of Western State Conference games on the docket for this week.  The Cougars open the week on Wednesday (5 PM) with a big challenge as they host #13 Ventura. The Pirates beat them by 43 points in their first meeting and the Cougars are still looking for their first win against their conference foes since 1995.  On Saturday (3 PM). the squad takes a short trip down the 101 to meet Allan Hancock in Santa Maria.  The Bulldogs beat the Cougars, 83-74, in the first swing through the WSC on the strength of strong fourth quarter, 20-14.  Both teams will be in top form with the Cougars in place to spoil the Bulldogs' playoff hopes.

The Cougars went 1-2 last week as they closed out the first round of WSC play and opened the second.  The Cougars opened the week with a loss to Santa Barbara City, 68-55, on Monday, but finished ended the first round with a win against LA Pierce, 64-57, in Woodland Hills on Wednesday.  However, the Vaqueros were waiting in Santa Barbara on Saturday to kick-off the second round and picked up another win over the Cougars, 74-52.  The Cougars, who began the season 0-7, are currently 9-14 overall and 2-5 against the WSC.
