Women Cagers Face the Top and Bottom of the WSC Standings this Week

Women's Basketball plays a pair of Western State Conference games this week.  The Cougars host Oxnard on Wednesday (5 PM) and travel to Moorpark on Wednesday (5 PM) to face 7th-ranked Raiders.  The Cougars are looking forward to regaining a victory over Oxnard when the Condors come to SLO.  In a recent ruling by the WSC, Cuesta's first round win against the Condors was ruled a forfeit due to an ineligible player.  Before the ruling, Cuesta beat the Condors, who are otherwise winless in WSC play, 66-49 in Oxnard.  The Cougars should get back in the win column on Wednesday but will have a tougher time in Moorpark on Saturday.  Over the past decade, Moorpark has become the new hot team in the State and reached the playoffs each of the past six seasons, including three Elite 8 appearances and the 2019 title game. The Raiders also own a nine-game winning streak against the Cougars, which dates back to the final game of the 2016 season.

The Cougars fell to local rival Allan Hancock, 63-34, in Santa Maria on Saturday.  The setback dropped Cuesta to 8-17 overall and 1-8 in WSC play with three games left on the 2022-23 schedule.  Freshman Forward Sydney Howe (pict) was the only Cuesta player to score in double-digits and led the Cougars with 11 points.
