Women's Hoops Overcomes a Slow Start to Beat Oxnard, 72-57

Women's Basketball earned another win on the floor against Oxnard, despite falling behind, 14-7, in the first quarter.  The visiting Condors tacked on another 14 points in the second quarter, however the Cougars exploded for 24 points and took a three-point lead into the intermission.  Cuesta never trailed again and put up 41 more points in the second half.  The Cougars early struggles with the Condors' zone defense disappeared in hail of three-point shots.  Cuesta converted 15 three-pointers in the contest, which is the most for the program in, at least, a decade.  Freshman Sydney Howe led the long-bomb squad with eight bonus shots, while leading all scorers with a career-high 29 points.   Sophomore Southpaw Sam Watanabe added 15 more points to the Cougars' cause, which were all scored from beyond the arch, while all-WSC Guard Olivia Missler netted a pair three-pointers on her way to ten points.  Freshman Guard Maria Ferrer Brao kept the ball moving around the arch and dished out a career-high nine assists.  Howe and Ferrer Brao both made it onto the Cougars' all time lists tonight. Howe's 29-point effort earns her the 20th spot on the Cougars single-game scoring list, while Ferrer Brao's nine assists earn her 9th all time at Cuesta (Statistics complete 1996-Present).  Tonight's game marked the second time the Cougars have beaten the Condors this season, however the Cougars had to forfeit the first game due to an ineligible player.  Tonight's win improves Cuesta's record to 9-17 overall and 2-8 in Western State Conference play.

Cuesta has Western State Conference bye this Saturday and will wrap up the season with two games next week.  Cuesta travels to play #7 Moorpark on Wednesday (5 PM) and closes the campaign back in front of their home crowd when they host Los Angeles Pierce next FRIDAY (5 PM)
