In 2002 the Cuesta Athletic Department established and named the Warren Hansen Scholar-Athlete Award in recognition of former Cuesta Athletic Director Warren Hansen's 36-year commitment to academic excellence. A Hansen Award winning student must maintain a 3.5 GPA and is also nominated on the basis of their citizenship and athletic performance. This year's winner of the Female Warren Hansen Scholar-Athlete Award is Star Basketball Player Olivia Missler (Santa Margarita: Mission Prep).
Olivia has been the indispensable player for Cuesta's Women's Basketball team the past two seasons and matched her excellence on the court to a superior performance in the classroom. This year she was selected as both Cuesta Women's Basketball's 2023 Player of the Year and Cuesta Athletics' top female scholar-athlete. Missler joined the Cougars as part of Coach Casey Blair's first recruiting class and has earned all-Western State Conference First Team honors on the hardwood after each of the past two seasons, while also earning repeat selections to all-WSC Academic Team in the classroom. This season, Missler led the Cougars with 11.6 points per game and became the 25th player in program history to eclipse 500 career points. She completed her academic career with a straight A's in the classroom, while Majoring in Psychology with a perfect 4.0 in 62.5 units
Oliva shall represent Cuesta at the Conference and State level as Cuesta College's CCCAA Women's Scholar Award nominee. Her nomination will move forward to the conference level in September.
Cuesta has earned more CCCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards than any other community college. Both of Cuesta's 2022 Hansen Scholar-Athletes of the Year, Poloist Jacob Sill and Spiker Christelle Mouret, were named to the 2021-22 CCCAA State Honor Roll (Top 15 in the State).
