Santa Ana Opens Big to Hold Off Cuesta, 74-65

Women's Basketball hosted fellow 4-1 team Santa Ana for a pre-Thanksgiving contest.  The visiting Dons rolled into SLO for the final stop on their three-day, three-game Central Coast road trip.  The Dons opened the trip with a loss at Hartnell, 66-61, but beat Monterey Peninsula last night, 59-48, before landing in SLO.  The Cougars entered the game on the back of their own three-game winning streak; however, Santa Ana came in hot and took control of the game with 32 points in the first quarter to build 16-point lead they would never fully relinquish.  The Cougars were able to cut the Dons' lead to five points in the next quarter, before eventually headed to the locker room down, 45-35.  Santa Ana rebuilt its lead to 20 points early in the second half, but the Cougars rallied to defend their home floor.  Cuesta doubled up the Dons, 16-8, in the final quarter of the setback to pull within ten-points before the final buzzer, 74-65.  Sophomore Forward Abigail Lacy led the Cougars with 22 points and added nine rebounds, while fellow Sophomore Sydney Howe and Freshman Paris Blankenship both reached double-digits with 10-points. The loss dropped the Cougars' season record to 4-2.

Cuesta Women's Basketball is back in action next Tuesday (5 PM), when they host Bakersfield.  The Renegades are also 4-2 over their first six games of the 2023-24 campaign.
