Women's Basketball Routs Oxnard, 70-47, to End Slide

The Cougars limped into their Western State Conference showdown with visiting Oxnard on a five-game slide. Luckily, the Cougars returned to form and knocked off the visiting Condors, 70-47.  Freshman Guard Reese Pasternik, who missed Cuesta's last two pre-conference games, returned to form, and posted a double-double, while boasting game-highs of 22 points, 14 rebounds and five assists.  Pasternik, who earlier in the season posted the Cougars only recorded triple-double, was joined in the box score by Guard Karla Lukas and Forward Abigail Lacy (pict-13) as the trio also almost outscored Oxnard on their own (43-47).  Lucas was the game's second highest scorer with 13 points, while Lacy added eight points and eight rebounds.  Everyone on the Cougars' roster made their way into the box score with at least one point and one rebound, while Oxnard's Andrea Berrelleza came off the bench to pace the Condors with a dozen points.  Cuesta Women's Basketball opened the season by winning a dozen of their first 15 showdowns and easily could have gone undefeated, as they held a second half lead in each setback, yet somehow the Cougars lost their momentum after the break.  Tonight's victory broke the Cougars out of their slump and moved their record to 12-8 overall and 1-3 in WSC play.

Cuesta's Women Cagers continue their WSC Schedule at Moorpark next Saturday (3 PM) in the nightcap of a men's and women's twinbill.  The host Raiders will be a challenge for the Cougars.  Moorpark is currently ranked #3 in the State and is currently undefeated in WSC play.
