Women's Basketball Chases Playoff Hopes Into the Final Week

Cuesta Women's Basketball began the season with an 11-3 record but has slipped to 14-12 and 5th place in the toughest conference in the State, the Western State Conference-North.  The WSC circuit boasts three teams in the CCCAA South Region's Top 15, while the Cougars try to finish strong and get into the playoffs for the first time since 2015.  Cuesta has a tough final week of the season with #3 Moorpark coming to San Luis Obispo on Wednesday (7 PM) and then finishing the season against Pierce in Woodland Hills on Friday (7 PM).  The Cougars lost to the ranked Raiders by 46 points in their first meeting, 73-27, in Moorpark, but also withstood a furious comeback, 24 points in the 4th quarter, to beat Pierce, 81-77, in SLO.  During the pre-game, Cuesta will also take a moment to recognize their three sophomores playing their final home game of their Cuesta careers- Maria Ferrer Brao (pict), Sydney Howe and Abigail Lacy.

Last week, the Cougars played only one game and came away with a victory at Oxnard on Wednesday, 68-41.  Sophomore Forward Abigail Lacy and Freshman Guard Karla Lukas led the Cougars with 16 and 14 points, respectively, while Freshman Swingman Reese Pasternik scored nine points, while pacing the team with 10 rebounds and two assists. The Cougars are 14-12 overall, but just 3-7 in WSC play.
