Women Cagers Drop Home Finale to #3 Moorpark, 76-45

Cuesta Women's Basketball fell to #3 Moorpark, 76-45, on Sophomore Night.  The setback put the Cougars once promising playoff hopes in jeopardy, as they fell to 14-13 on the season, which includes a 3-8 record against the Western State Conference.  The WSC is currently the hottest circuit in the State with five teams over .500 and entertaining a chance for the post-season.  The Cougars have not reached the playoffs since 2015, but with a win in their season finale and their 11-3 non-conference record could help punch their ticket.

Tonight, the Cougars never really found their footing against the visiting Raiders.  Moorpark took a 16-10 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. The Cougars made several strong runs, but the Raiders always answered and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the contest.  The setback was tough for the Cougars, but Raiders, who have been on a roll since November, increased their winning streak to 20 games in a row since losing a game directly after Thanksgiving.  Sophomore Abigail Lacy led Cuesta with 16 points and seven rebounds in the loss, while Freshman Reese Pasternik also added seven boards to go with her 11 points.  Lacy (Kneeling Center), along with Guard Maria Ferrer Brao (standing Center) and Forward Sydney Howe, (Standing left) was also one of three sophomores recognized during the pre-game announcements before their final game at Stork Gym.

The Cougars conclude the regular season this Friday at Los Angeles pierce College in Woodland Hills.  The Cougars and the host Brahmas hit the floor at 7 PM.
