Wrestling Heads to Bakersfield for a SEC Showdown

Cuesta Wrestling hopes to climb back into the SouthEast Conference Standings, this Wednesday (6 PM) at #6 Bakersfield.  The Cougars, ranked #9, dropped their first two WSC duals at a tripleheader in Moorpark, the second week of the season, but Cuesta's roster is healthier and fitter now. This week's bout marks the mid-point of their SEC schedule, so a win at undefeated Bakersfield would set them on their way, especially since their last two duals will be in SLO.  The Cougars currently boast two wrestlers in the Top 8 in State and four more in the Top 16.  2018 CCCAA State Place Winner Humphrey Quirie (Tuolumne) is the Cougars highest ranked Grappler at #4 at 174, but teammate Gabe Carrillo (Simi Valley) will keep pushing him in the room at #13 in the State.  The Cougars have a similar situation at 165, where Freshman Sami Baraket (Danville) is ranked #6 and 2019 State Qualifier Kai Schaefer (Placerville) is also 13th in the State.  Sophomore Jacob Yamaguchi (Kapolei HS, HI) and Freshman Quinn Patrick (Sacramento) are currently ranked !5th at 149 and 11th at 184, respectively.  Yamaguchi and Patrick are tied for the team lead with seven victories this season.

The Cougars withdrew from last weekend's Southern Dual Meet in East LA.
