Coach Kaleb Lique Naitove Picks Up His FIrst Win For Cuesta Soccer

Cuesta Women's Soccer picked up its first win of the season and first win under Coach Kaleb Lique Naitove (pict-L) with a win over NorCal Powerhouse DeAnza, 2-1.  The Cougars' victory marked the first win of the Lique Naitove Era as the Cuesta Kickers improved to 1-3 on the season.  Cuesta, playing on their home pitch, allowed an early DeAnza goal, but evened the game when Veteran Caitlin Flanagan found an open Kylie Beeby on a breakaway.  Beeby's tally was the Cougars only goal of the first half, but after the intermission Sophomore CeeCee Tucker found the back of the net for the second time this season.  Tucker's goal made the DeAnza Mountain Lions' early goal irrelevant and provided the margin of victory.  Tucker's goal also moved her into a tie for the team scoring lead with Returning Freshman Shaylee Sargentwho had left the game early after receiving a second Yellow Card.  In the nets, Freshman Goalkeeper Erika Enriquez earned the win in her first start after posing eight saves in the triumph.

Coach Kaleb Lique Naitove is the second coach in the history of Cuesta Women's Soccer.  Coach Lique Naitove began at Cuesta as an Assistant Coach with Track & Field in the Spring of 2022 and was a late hire to replace founding Coach Bob Wilson (pict-R) last season.  However, the late start and low numbers doomed last season, which was suspended after only four contests.  During his 26 seasons on the sidelines, Coach Wilson led the Cougars to a win in their first game and over the last 29 years the program's overall record, despite a few sub-par seasons, has never dipped below .500. The overall record now stands at 244-241-73, so today's victory guarantees the streak will continue in the Cougars' conference schedule.  The Cougars continue their pre-conference schedule next Friday (4 PM), when Folsom Lake comes to SLO.
