Women's Soccer Earns a Tie Against Oxnard, 2-2

Women's Soccer ended an eight-game slide by earning a tie on their home pitch against Oxnard, 2-2.  The visiting Condors struck first, just nine minutes into the game, however Cuesta's Talia Arroyo netted the equalizer 20 minutes later.  After the intermission, Oxnard needed only thirteen minutes to take back the lead, when Midfielder Carmen Gonzales stepped up to collect a rebound and send it into the goal.  The goal came after a strong defensive stand by Cuesta and could have broken the Cougars spirt, but instead they doubled down on their attack.  The Cougars controlled the momentum for the rest of the game, although shot after shot failed to get past Oxnard's defense. Finally, with just five minutes on the clock, the Condors were called for a foul in the goal box, which set up a penalty kick.  Freshman Lyndsey Mitchell (Pict-r) converted the penalty to knot the game back at 2-2.  Cuesta kept control while the clock ticked down, unfortunately they were unable to score the winner and settled for a tie.  Sophomore Goalie Averi Nerpel went the distance in the goal for Cuesta, while stopping 11 offerings from the Condors.  The draw was the Cougars' first of the season and moved their overall record to 1-12-1, while improving their mark against the Western State Conference (WSC) to 0-8-1.

The Cuesta Kickers have three WSC contests remaining on their schedule.  They play at Moorpark on November 3rd (4 PM) and squeeze in their final home game on November 7 (2 PM) against #25 Santa Barbara City, before closing the 2023 campaign at #21 LA Pierce in Woodland Hills on November 10 (3 PM).
