Cuesta Soccer Lands Five on All WSC Teams

Cuesta Women's Soccer landed five players on the 2023 All Western State Conference teams led by lone first team selection CeeCee Tucker (Arroyo Grande HS-pict).  Last year, Cuesta suspended the 2022 season after only four games, so the Cougars rebuilt for the 2023 campaign under Coach Kaleb Lique Naitove.  The Cougars came out kicking and averaged a goal per game during their pre-conference schedule, including a win over DeAnza.  Unfortunately, the Cougars also play in the Western State Conference North Division, which sent five of its seven teams to the playoffs.   The Cougars scored only five goals in a dozen WSC games but used two of them to earn a tie against Oxnard to avoid being swept by the circuit.   Five Cuesta players, including Tucker, were accorded all-WSC honors.

Sophomore Defender CeeCee Tucker was the lone Cougar named to the 2023 All Western State Conference First Team.  Tucker was a part-time starter on founding Coach Bob Wilson final team in 2021 and sat out all last year's suspended season.  This year, she was a bright spot in the Cougars' frontcourt.  Tucker was involved in 33% of the team's nine scores and tied with fellow Forward Shaylee Sargent (Morro Bay HS) for the team's point lead with two goals and assist on the season for five points.

Midfielder Kylie Beeby (Pleasanton) and Defender Keira Tresky (Paso Robles HS) were both named to the 2023 All-WSC Second Team.  Beeby is listed as a defender, but her speed and skill on the ball allowed the Cougars to add her to the attack, while she also often marking the opponent's biggest threat.  Her sole score of the season also provided the Cougars their only win.  She scored the game-winner in with their win over DeAnza on September 15.  Tresky was also a mainstay in the Cougars' defense.  She supported the Cougars' offense by moving up to midfield and using her powerful leg to keep the Cougars' attack on the opponent's half of the pitch.

Midfielders Hailey Hallford (Pleasant Hill) and Samantha Rivera-Macias (Los Osos: Morro Bay HS) were both accorded all-WSC Honorable Mention.  Hallford seemed to play endline-to-endline and was one of seven Cuesta players to score on the season.   Rivera-Macias only took two shots on the season, however her defensive skill provided a lot of confidence for Cuesta's offense.
