Women's Swimming's Dynamic Duo Finishes 2nd In Opener

Women's Swimming opened the 2021 season with a four-team home mini-meet on Saturday.  2018 All American Paige Leonard and Returner Sofia Swayne were the only two competitors for Cuesta College, but they combined to win six individual events and outscored both Mt San Antonio and local rival Allan Hancock to place second as a team.    Swayne opened the day with a victory in the 200-individual medley (2:20.92) and then claimed the 50-butterfly (:28.26) two events later.  After a ten-event break, Swayne capped her day with an astounding 11-second victory, nearly a full length of the pool, in the 100-butterfly (1:02.94).  Leonard, who ranks in Cuesta's Top 10 for all three backstroke events and five events overall, was dominant on the day.  She completely outclassed the competition by winning the 50-backstroke (:29.21) by more than six seconds, the 100-individual medley (1:06.04) by almost three seconds and, the 100-backstroke (1:03.38) by seven seconds.  The dynamic duo claimed six of 19 events on the day, but were unable to overcome the depth, and relay points, of the winning Bakersfield team.

The Aqua-Cats host another mini-meet this Saturday (11:30).
