Women's Swimming Takes 4th at WSC Opener, Travels to Mt SAC this Week

Cuesta Women's Swim & Dive finished fourth at the season's first WSC Mini Meet in Bakersfield.  Five teams competed in the meet, which was won by Santa Barbara City with 278 points, while the Cougars' trio garnered just 25 points.  Freshman Madison Corrigan led the Cougars with 13 points, while Sophomore Presley Acosta was right behind her with a dozen points of her own.  Corrigan competed in four individual events and posted her best finish in the 100-butterfly (1:12.73) with 4th place.  She also made "Big Finals" (Top 8) with 5th place finishes in both the 200-Freestyle (2:16.48) and 100-Breaststroke (1:21.88).  In her fourth start, she finished 11th in the 50-Freestyle (:29.50). Acosta edged Corrigan in the 100-Breastroke (1:18.84) for 2nd place and also made "Big Finals" in both the 100 (1:02.09) and 50-Freestyles (:28.06), where she touched in at 5th and 8th place, respectively.  Freshman Sydney Gills did not score but did make the consolation finals in all three of her events.  She finished 13 in both the 100-Backstroke (1:36.48) and 200-Freestyle (2:52.33), while landing in 15th in the 50-Freestyle (:34.68).  Corrigan also dropped a combined 15 seconds off her seed times for the three events.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend for their first large meet.  The Aqua-Cats will spend this Friday and Saturday at the Mt San Antonio Invitational in Walnut.  The Mounties meet is expected to draw between 15-20 teams and will be a good warm-up for the Cougars' 45th Invitational the next week.
