Women's Track & Field Heads to WSC Prelims

Cuesta Women's Track & Field heads to the 2021 Western State Conference Preliminary Meet this Friday at Antelope Valley in Lancaster.  The Cougars have a well-rounded team and, after taking 1st place in their first meet, will be a contender for the conference title over the next two weeks.  The Cougars strength this season is on the track.  Freshman Madeline Fletcher leads the Cougars with three Cuesta All Time Top 10 marks this Spring.  Fletcher ranks 4th all time at Cuesta in the 400-meters (1:00.11), 6th in the 200-meters (:26.78) and 9th in the 800-meters (2:17.49), while also earning the 2nd seed for the WSC in both the longer races.  Returner Caitlyn Chesson joined Fletcher on Cuesta's Top 10 for the 400-meters (1:02.21) and is a threat for the podium in the mid-distance events.  In the longer races, Freshman Harrier Dulce Esquivel leads the pack.  She ranks 3rd in the WSC, directly behind Fletcher, for the 800-meters (2:32.03), 2nd in the 1,500-meters (5:14.88) and leads the field in the 3,000-meters (12.09.76).  Multi-talented Eva Kessler adds the #2 mark in the WSC for both the 100 hurdles (:18.16) and High Jump (4'11").  She also ranks 9th all time at Cuesta for the High Jump.  Returner Natalia Delgado will handle the throws for the Cougars. She ranks #1 in the WSC for the Shot Put (38' 5") and her Hammer toss of 112' 8" earned her the final spot in Cuesta Top 10.  Pole Vaulter Elen Zhu currently ranks 3rd in the WSC.
