Women's Track Set for WSC Finals

Women's Track Set for WSC Finals

Cuesta Women's Track & Field heads to the 2021 Western State Conference Finals this Friday in Bakersfield. The Cougars' strength this season is on the track.  Freshman Madeline Fletcher (SLO HS) leads the Cougars with three Cuesta All Time Top 10 marks this Spring.  Fletcher ranks 4th all time at Cuesta in the 400-meters (1:00.11), 6th in the 200-meters (:26.78) and 9th in the 800-meters (2:17.49), while also earning the 2nd seed for the WSC in both the longer races.  Returner Caitlyn Chesson (Paso Robles: Templeton HS) joined Fletcher on Cuesta's Top 10 for the 400-meters (1:02.21) and is a threat for the podium in the mid-distance events.  Freshman Harrier Dulce Esquivel (SLO HS) posted all-WSC marks in the 10K at last week's prelims, but she also ranks 3rd in the WSC, directly behind Fletcher, for the 800-meters (2:32.03) and 2nd in the 1,500-meters (5:14.88).  Multi-talented Eva Kessler (Arroyo Grande HS) has already competed and scored in two field events at the Prelims, but hits the track this week, boasting the #2 mark in the WSC 100 hurdles (:18.16).   Returner Natalia Delgado (Bogota, COL: Paso Robles HS) ranks #1 in the WSC for the Shot Put (38' 5") and her Hammer toss of 112' 8" landed her the final spot for Cuesta All Time Top 10.  Pole Vaulter Elen Zhu (San Francisco) currently ranks 3rd in the WSC.

Last week- Cuesta Women's Track and Field earned 32 points last weekend and is only one-point out of 2nd place and nine points behind current leader Moorpark.  Multi-event Returner Eva Kessler competed in two "timed final" events. She finished 2nd in the High Jump (5'1") and 4th in the Long Jump (14' 7.25"), however the bulk of the Cougars' points came from the Harriers.  Runner-up Dulce Esquivel led a pack of Cougars to four of the first five places in the race.  She cleared the course in 42:56.22 and, within the next three minutes, was followed in order by Julia Voss (SLO HS), Shannon Ferrall (Arroyo Grande HS) and Emily Mathien (Paso Robles HS).
