Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for May is Sprinter Madeline Fletcher.
Sprinter Madeline Fletcher dominated the 2021 Western State Conference Track & Field Championship. She led the Cougars with two individual titles and one runner-up finish. She won both the 400 and 800-meter races but was edged out in the 200-meters. Fletcher, despite the Cougars' limited competition schedule, added three new marks to Cuesta's All Time Top 10. She currently ranks 5th all time in the 200-meters (:26.13), 4th in the 400-meters (:59.44) and 9th in the 800-meters (2:17.40). Her 400-meter time is also the third fastest in the State this season, which in a non-pandemic year would earn her all-State honors. Fletcher has accepted a scholarship from St. Mary's College to run for the Gaels next year.
Cuesta Women's Track and Field finished its abbreviated 2020-21 season by finishing 1st place as a team at the Western State Conference Championship. The Cougars hope to be back fulltime during the 2021-22 season.
