Cuesta Women's Track & Field finished 2nd last week in Santa Monica and fell just short of a second straight Western State Conference title. Pole Vaulter Elen Zhu (pict) claimed the Cougars' only individual event title of the weekend, but the Cougars did put up 19 all-WSC performances and expect to send a massive contingent to this weekend's CCCAA Regional Preliminary Meet. Former SLO Tigers Dulce Esquivel and Julia Voss joined Heptathlete Savannah Shoemaker for a combined 10 all-WSC performances. Esquivel ran wild all weekend with three runners-up finishes and a Bronze. She finished 2nd in the 800, 1500 and 10,000 meters, while taking 3rd in the 5,000m. Voss finished directly behind her old high school teammate in the 1,500 and 10,000 meters, while finishing 2nd in the 5,000. Shoemaker placed 2nd in the Heptathlon two weeks ago and added 3rd in the Javelin and 5th in the Long Jump last weekend in Dogtown.
The Cougars are set to compete in the 2022 CCCAA Southern California Regional Preliminary Meet this Friday (11 AM) at Moorpark College.
