Cuesta Women's Chase Team Title This Week- And Look Forward to State

Women's Track and Field is only one-point behind perennial powerhouse Cerritos in the CCCAA Regional Meet as they enter the finals this weekend in Moorpark.  The Cougars have talent all over the stadium and should send a strong contingent to the 2022 CCCAA State Track & Field Championships in two weeks.  Coach Brian Locher says, "Overall probably the best women's team Cuesta has ever seen."  The team boasts talent in the lanes, in the pits, and in the throws.  In the lanes, Harriers Dulce Esquivel and Julia Voss are a dynamic duo competing in everything from 800 to 10,000 meters, while Steepler Shannon Ferrall handles the obstacles and water troughs.  Heptathlete Savannah Shoemaker has already qualified in her signature multi-event but will also compete in individual events this week.  She will join Eva Kessler and Hannah Quimby in the High Jump and Long Jump and should move on with the throwers in the Javelin and Shot Put, while possible adding a mid-range run or hurdle race.  Pole Vaulter Elen Zhu is the heir to a long line of event excellence at Cuesta and should compete for a State Title in Pole Vault this year, while also moving on the 100 and 200 Sprints.  The Cougars are also strong in the throws with Natalia Delgado and Makaylie Howell.   Both hold All Time Cuesta Top 10 marks with multiple throwing implements.  This weekend is the final chance for the Cougars to qualify for the 2022 CCCAA State Championships.
