Cuesta's Track and Field enjoyed one of its finest seasons in decades during the Spring of 2022, both on the field of competition and in the classroom. The men's and women's teams were both represented at the 2022 CCCAA State Championships during competition and were also recognized for academic excellence. Together they are the 31st and 32nd Cuesta teams to earn a CCCAA State Scholar-team honors, with this also the third award for the men's program and the fifth for the women, who are now tied with Men's Water Polo and Men's Basketball for the most scholar team awards at Cuesta College.
Cuesta Women's Track & Field enjoyed its finest season since 1988, when the Cougars won a conference title and finished 3rd in the State, by claiming a 2nd place in Western State Conference and earning 6th place at the 2022 CCCAA State Championships. On the season, the Cougars posted 18 new Cuesta Top 10 marks in competition, while 13 of the 14 athletes were named to Cuesta's Honor Roll, while boasting a team GPA of 3.561. Eight of the Cougars' athletes placed at the CCCAA State Championship, including All State Performers Eva Kessler and Makaylie Howell.
The men added four new Cuesta Top 10 marks, including a new Discus Record from State and National Champion Gabriel Katches, now at UCLA. The team also finished in the State's Top 20 for the fifth time in the past six seasons. In the classroom, the men posted a cumulative 3.206 team GPA and earned CCCAA Scholar Team honors for the first time since 2015, although the team qualified for nomination in four of its past six eligible seasons. Cuesta landed eight of 12 athletes on Cuesta's 2022 Spring Honor Roll, including three boasting perfect 4.0s.
