Women Take 4th at WSC Coast Meet; Scovil Makes Her Mark in the Triple Jump

Cuesta hosted the 2023 Western State Conference Coast Meet and hosted five other members of the conference in today's competition.  The women won two events on the day and took 4th place as a team.  Freshmen Leapers Madeline Scovil (pict-R)and Ashley Gose (pict-L) joined Veteran Thrower Anessa Palomino as the Cougars' only event winners.  Scovil made the biggest splash of the day by winning the Triple Jump, with a leap of 36' 4.5" to clear the competition by three feet.  The mark also moved her into 2nd place all time at Cuesta and just short of Tee Noble's 1998 school record of 38' 2".   Scovil also finished 4th in the Long Jump, but that event was claimed by teammate Ashley Gose.  Gose won the event with a leap of 16' 9", which was short Cuesta's all time 6th best mark of 16-11 that she posted earlier this season, however her best performance was in the 100m.  Gose broke the 13-second barrier for the first time this season and moved into 9th all time at Cuesta at :12.98.  Palomino enjoyed a busy, but successful meet and led the Cougars by scoring in all four throwing events.  She won the Hammer with a season-best throw of 110' 9" and placed 3rd in the Discus (96-6.75), before taking 4th in both the Javelin (74-0.5) and Shot Put (31-2.75).  Overall, the women's team combined to earn 11 top five finishes in the meet.

The Cougars have had three meets cancelled due to weather this season and have only two non-championship events left on their schedule.  Next week the Cougars shall travel to Moorpark for the Moorpark Open on Friday (All Day), before participating at the Vaquero Invitational in Glendale the first weekend of April.
