Women's Track & Field Collects More Top Marks as They Head Into Championship Month

Women's Track & Field attended the Vaquero Open last weekend as part of their final tune-up before the CCCAA's month-long competition to qualify for the State Meet.  First-year Coach Robert Neely has his team primed for the next month after watching his men's and women's teams combined to post a dozen season-best marks in Glendale.

The women's posted five new Cuesta Top 10 marks last week thanks to Freshmen Ashley Gose and Madeline Scovil, who dominated the Vaqueros Open.  Gose's time :12.98 in the 100m earned her 9th all time at Cuesta, while her leap of 17'9.75" was the best CCCAA mark in Glendale and moved her up to 5th all time at Cuesta.  Scovil soared 16'4.5" in the Long Jump for 7th in the competition and final slot on the Cougars Top 10, but she came back to beat Gose in the Triple Jump.  Scovil remained in 2nd all time at Cuesta, behind Tee Noble's 38'2" in 1998, but closed the gap with a leap of 37'3.25 to win the event over Gose.  Gose's mark of 36' 10.5" ranks 3rd all time at Cuesta.

Track and Field has a one-week break and begins elimination month on Friday (11 AM), April 20th with the 2023 Western State Conference Preliminaries at Antelope Valley in Lancaster.  The WSC finals are scheduled for the next Friday in Moorpark.  The CCCAA Southern California Regional Prelims and Finals opne the first two weekends of April in San Diego with the CCCAA State Track & Field Championships scheduled for Modesto on the 19-20th
