Women's Volleyball hosted #8 Santa Barbara City for its Western State Conference opener and fell to the Vaqueros in three sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-9).  The Cougars, who have been battling injuries and illness this week, rode Returning Freshman Christelle Mouret's (Morro Bay HS) serving to open the first set with a 7-0 lead, however the Vaqueros battled back to even the match at 16-16 before stealing the first set, 25-22.  Santa Barbara City kept up the pace and jumped out to 20-13 lead in the second set, however Cuesta regrouped and traded points until the Vaqueros took the set, 25-19.  The Vaqueros closed out the match with strong performance in the finale 25-9.  Freshman Outside Hitter Teagan Bryant (Exeter HS) led the Cougars with 10 kills, while Mouret added five more kills of her own to complement her strong serving.  The Cougars fell to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the WSC.

The Cougars continue their 2021 Western State Conference schedule this Friday (6 PM) at Ventura and return home next Wednesday (6 PM) to host Pierce.
