Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our female selection for October is Outside Hitter Christelle Mouret.
Returning Freshman Outside Hitter Christelle Mouret broke Cuesta's record for service aces in a single season this month. She landed a pair of aces against Pierce on October 29 to break current Cuesta Head Coach Whitney Meyer's 2014 record of 45. Mouret now holds the season record at 46, but Coach Meyer still holds the career mark at 76. Mouret, despite playing only seven matches during the abbreviated 2020-21 campaign, ranks 7th (62) on the career list with five regular season matches left on the schedule. Meyer says of Mouret, "Her steady leadership of the offense from the Outside has been essential in our victories. She plays all six rotations and is crucial to our success in serve receive passing." Mouret has been the Cougars most productive player during her time at Cuesta. and has led the team in points-per set each of the past two campaigns.
Cuesta Women's Volleyball is 11-8 on the season and 3-5 against the Western State Conference. The Cougars are chasing their first post-season berth since 2008.
