Volleyball Lands Four Players on All-Conference Teams

Women's Volleyball bounced back from the pandemic to earn the program's first playoff berth in 14 seasons.  The Spikers battled through a tough Western State Conference, which boasted three regional semi-finalists, and finished 4th in the WSC.  The Cougars posted a solid 14-11 overall record and their return to the post-season was recognized by the rest of the Western State Conference as four players earned all-WSC recognition: including first team selection Christelle Mouret (Morro Bay HS).

Returning Freshman Christelle Mouret (Morro Bay HS), as an all-WSC First Teamer, was everywhere on the court this season.  She led the Cougars with 205 kills, set a new school record with 51 service aces and was third on the team with 219 digs.  Mouret also led the Cougars with 3.0 points per set and helped snap the program's decade-plus long playoff draught. Mouret, despite playing only seven matches during the pandemic shortened 2020-21 season, ranks 5th all time with 67 career aces.

Freshman Opposite Hitter Whitney Thompson (Arroyo Grande HS- pict) was named to the 2021 All-WSC Second Team.  She finished second on Cuesta with 196 kills and peaked as the Spikers vied for a playoff spot.  She posted a season-high 14 kills in the Cougars' five-set victory over Citrus in the WSC Crossover and landed a team season-high 17 kills in their playoff loss to Fullerton.  On the frontline, Thompson also led the Cougars with 63 total blocks, while finishing second on the team with 2.9 points per set.

Returning Freshman Setter Kelsey Courtney (Cincinnati, OH) and Freshman Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan (Templeton HS) were both accorded 2021 All-WSC Honorable Mention.  Courtney led the Cougars' offense and her 602 assists, which tied her for 7th all time at Cuesta.  She also moved into 6th all time for a career, after including the brief 2020-21 campaign, with 825 assists.  Additionally, Courtney tied for the team lead this season with 226 digs, while her 27 service aces tied her for third.  Donovan was fourth on the team with 121 kills, which she pounded out at team-leading .335 clip.  She was also third on the team with 49 total blocks.
