Cuesta Spiker Morgan Krause Accepts Athletic Scholarship

Cuesta Volleyball player and two-time all-Western State Conference Academic Team Member Morgan Krause (Santa Maria) has signed an athletic scholarship to play and study at Saint Mary of the Woods College in Indiana.  Krause spent the past three seasons as a starting Middle Blocker for Cuesta Women's Volleyball.  In 2020 she led the team in Blocks and was second on the team this past fall.  Krause is one of only 13 Cuesta players to amass more than 100 total blocks during their career.  She eclipsed the century mark with four blocks in the Cougars' playoff loss to Fullerton to close her career with 101 blocks, including 46 solo stuffs.  On offense, Krause added 223 kills and 50 digs for Cuesta to complete her on court resume.  She should also fit in well with the Pomeroys with her combination of consistent offense and dominating defense at the net.   The Pomeroys are the defending United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Women's Volleyball Champions but are in the midst of an organizational transition and shall join the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) next season.  Saint Mary of the Woods College and the rest of the River States Conference will be part of the NAIA in 2022-23.

Krause graduated from Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria, before making the move to Cuesta College.  She said of the move, "SLO is beautiful and close to the beach, but I also heard good things (about the volleyball program)."  Krause did not play club volleyball growing up; however, her athleticism and intelligence have allowed her to overcome her relative lack of experience.  Krause noted that Cuesta Coach Whitney Meyer made a big impact on her career, saying "Whitney taught me to be a team player, to take criticism and be open and honest.  To keep your mindset!"  She will be Majoring in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine at Saint Mary's but is glad for the opportunity to continue playing.
