Volleyball Splits Opening Twinbill

Women's Volleyball travelled to Lemoore last  Friday for a tri-meet with host West Hills-Lemoore and visiting West Hills-Coalinga.  The Cougars won their first set of the season in a barn-burner, 25-23, but the host Eagles controlled Game 2, 25-20, to even the match.  Cuesta closed out its season-opening match with back-to-back 26-24 victories to win in four games.  In the nightcap, Cuesta took a 2-0 (25-23 and 25-19) lead against WHC-Coalinga, however the Falcons outlasted the Cougars in each of the last three sets (25-23, 25-23, 17-15) to take the match, despite being our pointed- 110-109.  Cuesta is 1-1 on the season.

The Cougars head back North this weekend for a pair of tri-meets.  On Wednesday, they travel to Visalia for a doubleheader against Modesto (2 PM) and host College of the Sequoias (4 PM).  On Friday, the Spikers run up the coast for another twinbill at Monterey Peninsula College.  The Cougars shall not face the host Lobos but instead play College of the Siskiyous (Noon) and Merced (2 PM).

Last weekend, 2021 All-WSC Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan (pict) opened her sophomore season and the Cougars' lone returner set the tone as a full rotation player.  Donovan was second on the team with 16 kills, while adding three blocks and 37 digs, including 30 in the finale.   Freshman Katey Cramer also established herself on the outside with a team-high 25 kills and a team-best average of 3.5 points per set.
