Volleyball Ends Pre-Conference Schedule with a Flurry of Matches

Cuesta Women's Volleyball begins Western State Conference play next Wednesday and loaded up their schedule with four matches this week.  The Cougars, who return only one player from their 2021 CCCAA Playoff team, have been working hard to get their young squad ready to contend.  Cuesta opens this week with a home loss to Antelope Valley, 3-1, on Wednesday, before hitting the road to face West LA in Culver City on Friday.  The Oilers edged the Cougars in four games (25-23, 25-23, 25-27, 25-15), with the first three game going down to the wire.  Cuesta was back home and back on the court this morning for their North/South Mini-Tournament with #14 Hartnell, Monterey Peninsula and Santa Barbara City.  The Cougars were swept by Monterey Peninsula in the first round (25-16, 25-23, 25-12), but pushed #14 Hartnell to four games.  The Cougars lost their opener Panthers but sent the second set into overtime and won their third set, before bowing out in the fourth (25-5, 26-24, 22-25, 25-11).  All-WSC Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan led the Cougars with 15 kills on the day, while Freshman Katey Cramer added 11 more.  The Cougars also got a lot of help from Setter Serah Basham (pict) and Libero Summer Sebok (pict).  Basham landed eight service aces, while Sebok collected 29 digs on the day.  Cuesta is 3-10 on the season.

The Cuesta Spikers begin Western State Conference play by welcoming Santa Barbara City back to SLO this Wednesday (6 PM).  The Vaqueros earned a pair of wins today in today's North-South Mini Tournament, after sweeping both Monterey Peninsula and #14 Hartnell.  The unranked Vaqueros came into today's tournament with a 3-6 record, before beating both the previously undefeated Lobos and 14th-ranked Panthers.  Cuesta is also scheduled to travel to Sylmar to face LA Mission on Friday (6 PM).  The Eagles own sweeps over both West LA and Antelope Valley.
