Spikers Sweep Pierce, Wrap-Up WSC-North Play this Week

Women's Volleyball swept Western State Conference North Division foe Los Angeles Pierce (27-25, 25-11, 26-24) on Friday to snap a four-match slide.  The Cougars needed overtime in both the opening and closing sets, but the victory in Woodland Hills secured them 5th place in the WSC; a conference that boasts three teams in the State's Top 10.  The Cougars beat the Brahmas without the services of All-WSC Middle Blocker Meredith Donovan, but they had several players step up to help claim the victory.  Outside Hitter Katey Cramer (pict) pounded out a match-best 16 kills to lead the Cougars and pushed herself over the 200-kill mark for the season.  She now has 212 kills on the season, which is just 16 short of the Cougars' all-time Top 20.  Fellow Rookie Taylor Vannest was second on the team in several categories.  She landed five kills, dished out eight assists and collected 10 digs, while stuffing a team-high four total blocks.  Sophomore Setter Serah Basham also enjoyed a big game.  She led the Cougars with 17 assists, four service aces and, 11 digs.  Cuesta is 6-17 overall and 2-7 in WSC play.

The Spikers close out WSC-North Division play this Wednesday (6 PM) at #5 Ventura.  The Pirates swept the Cougars in their first meeting in SLO, while outscoring them 44-27.  Cuesta will end the regular season on November 15, when they host a Western State Conference Interdivisional Match against the WSC-South's 5th place team- which is currently Citrus.  The Owls swept the Cougars in Glendora on September 16.
