Cuesta Spikers Set for a Busy Week with Three Mini-Tournaments

Women's Volleyball is scheduled to play eight matches in the first eight days of September.  The Cougars played two matches on the 1st of the month and will bounce back from the Labor Day weekend with another twinbill at the Taft Tournament on Tuesday.  The Cougars are set to face both host Taft (Noon) and Los Medanos (2 PM).  The next day the team heads up the road for the College of the Sequoias Tournament in Visalia, where they match up with Modesto (2 PM) and the host Giants (4 PM).  The Cougars head back to the coast on Thursday and get set for their third doubleheader of the week at the Monterey Peninsula Tournament.  The Spikers wrap up their odyssey with both College of the Siskiyous (Noon) and a re-match against Lassen (2 PM).

The Cougars split two matches at the West Hills Tournament in Lemoore last Friday.  The Cougars suffered their first setback of the season with a four-set loss (20-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-18) to #21 Lassen.  The Cougars won the opener, 25-20, but Lassen rallied to take both the momentum and Game 2, 25-23, and kept the control of the match as they closed out the last two sets by a combined scored of 50-33.  In the tournament finale, the Cuesta Spikers dusted themselves off and battled through another hard-fought four-set match to take down West Hills-Coalinga (25-12, 30-28, 23-25, 26-24).  The Cougars took the opening set easy enough, 25-12, but the last three sets all went the distance, 30-28, 23-25 and 26-24, as the Cougars held on for the victory.  Cuesta is currently 3-1 on the season.
