Spikers Back in SLO for a Three-game Homestand

Women's Volleyball hosts a three-game homestand this Friday and Saturday.  The Cougars face Citrus in an inter-divisional Western State Conference match on Friday (6 PM), before hosting a mini tournament on Saturday.  The Cougars and Western State Conference foe #18 Santa Barbara are each scheduled to play both Monterey Peninsula, who is unranked despite being one of eight remaining undefeated teams, and #19 Hartnell.  The two teams will split the Cuesta Gym and play simultaneous games.  The Cougars open against the Lobos at 10 AM, while Santa Barbara City faces Hartnell.  The Cougars then play the Panthers at Noon, as Santa Barbara City takes on Monterey Peninsula.

The Cougars, after a 2-0 start, endured a tough road trip last week.  From Friday, September 1 to Friday the 8th the Cougars played eight matches and posted a 2-6 record.  After splitting a pair of game at the Lemoore Tournament, the Cougars opened last with a doubleheader at Taft.  Cuesta opened with a four-set loss(25-13, 11-25, 25-18, 25-11) to the Taft Cougars, before being edged in a five-set match by Los Medanos (25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 24-26, 15-10).  On Wednesday, the Cougars ventured further North for another twinbill in Visalia against Modesto and host College of the Sequoias.  The Pirates from Modesto swept the Cougars (25-16, 26-24, 25-13), while the host Giants needed four sets to win (25-15, 25-27, 25-13, 25-20).  After four games in the Central Valley, the Cougars made for the coast and, after a one-day break, played in the Monterey-Peninsula Tournament.  The one-day break paid off as the Cougars opened the day with a four-set win over Siskiyous (25-17, 14-25, 25-12, 25-4), but also played and lost to #21 Lassen (26-24, 25-12, 25-19) for the second straight Friday and were swept to close the week.  The Cougars are 4-6 on the season.
