Women's Volleyball Falls to #10 Ventura in WSC Play

Women's Volleyball hosted #10 Ventura for a Western State Conference match and the Pirates earned the sweep over the Cougars, 25-11, 25-16, 25-13.  The Bucs and Cougars both entered the match with a record of 1-1 against WSC circuit, but Ventura set the tone early by grabbing the first 10 points of the night on their way to a 25-11 win in the opener.  The Cougars got off to a better start, 9-5, in the second set, but another 9-5 run put Ventura in control, 18-10.  The Cougars rallied with their own five-point run to close the gap, 21-15, but managed only one more point before Ventura took a two-set lead, 25-16.  It appeared the Cougars had figured out the Bucs as they split the first dozen points of the third set, however Ventura followed with a 9-1 run to put the game, and eventually the match, out of reach, 25-13.  Freshman Outside Hitter Bailey Woodside led the Cougars with 8 kills and moved up to #8 on Cuesta's single season Kill Leaders List (Since 1996).  She is tied with former record holder Christie Silliman (1997) with 247 Kills.

The Cougars, 10-8 overall and 1-2 in WSC play, take a break from the circuit this Saturday to host Ohlone and West Hills-Lemoore in their final non-conference games of the season.  Cuesta opens the day with Ohlone (10 AM) and closes the tournament against West Hills-Lemoore (2 PM), while the Renegades and Golden Eagles also play at Noon.
